Birth Certificate, Ya'll!

What's the worst thing that could happen to your Obama birth certificate book? That's right, two weeks before it is published, the aforementioned certificate is presented to the public. Thousands of people who pre-ordered the thing are probably online right now looking up Amazon's return policies.

Donald Trump, of course claims the publication of the certificate to be his accomplishment, while others have turned from doubting the existence of the certificate to doubting its authenticity. Are you fucking serious?

In other news:

You can find a pdf of the birth certificate right here on the White House website.

The Wilhelm Scream

Ever heard of the Wilhelm Scream? You've probably heard it before. It's a stock scream and it's been featured in a ton of movies, such as all Star Wars and Indiana Jones movies. It has since become somewhat of an in-joke among sound people.

Here's a compilation of a couple of its uses.

Movie Quality Info Graphic

Ever feel like the movies aren't what they're used to be? You may have a point. If you look at this graph you cannot help but see a steady decline in quality of the most successful movies.

By the way, here are some of the top grossing movies from 1995 (the absolute low point). Jumanji, Waterworld, Casper, Batman Forever and in first place Die Hard with a Vengeance. Doesn't sound that great, does it?

Live Grenade Paperweight

Police in Birmingham, AL found a live WWII grenade in a car during a routine traffic stop. The car was searched after a check of the driver's license revealed there was a warrant for his arrest.

The owner of the hand grenade said he had received it as a present from his grandfather when he was a teenager and had been using it as a paperweight.

Back To Film School

Some of M. Night Shyamalan's fans - apparently he still has some left - have decided to set up a website to collect money for him to go back to film school. Maybe, if this would get us another movie like 'The Sixth Sense' it might just be worth it.

$150,000 is what they're looking for to present to him in the form of a giant check. In the likely case that he refuses the offer, they are planning to hold a film festival at Tisch School of the Arts and award the money to the aspiring filmmaker who wins.

They're currently at about $500 so this might take a while...

Smaug's Treasure

Have you ever wondered how much Smaug (the dragon from 'The Hobbit') is really worth. Over at Forbes they did the math. At least we get a ballpark as to how much the treasure is worth.

Picture: Wikipedia

"Dragons are long and narrow, so we can safely assume that Smaug can curl comfortably up on a treasure mound with same diameter as his body length – 19.2 feet.
How high is the mound? Well, at one point in The Hobbit, Bilbo climbs up and over the mound, and we know that Hobbits are approximately three feet tall. Assuming the mound is twice the height of Bilbo, we can say that the mound has a height of approximately 6 feet – like a six foot tall man climbing over a 12 foot mound of coins; substantial but not insurmountable.
To keep the math relatively simple and to avoid complications like integrating the partial volume of a sphere, we can approximate Smaug’s bed of gold and silver to be a cone, with a radius of 9.6 feet (1/2 the diameter) and a height of 7 feet (assuming the weight of the dragon will smush down the point of the cone by about a foot).
Now we can calculate the volume of Smaug’s treasure mound:
V= 1/3 π r2 h = 1/3 * π * 9.62 * 7 = 675.6 cubic feet"

Long story short, they value his treasure at about $8.6 billion. Not bad, eh?

Old Lady Cuts Off Georgia's Internet

While digging for scrap metal, an old woman in Georgia accidentally severed the cable that connects the entire country as well as parts of Armenia and Azerbaijan to the internet. Oops...

That's Georgia, the former Soviet Republic in the Caucasus, not the Southern state. You can see Russia from this Georgia.

Did You Know The Internet Pormotes Satanism?

"A surge in Satanism fuelled by the internet has led to a sharp rise in the demand for exorcists, the Roman Catholic Church has warned."

I didn't even know 'fuelled' was spelled with two Ls.

Microsoft 42" Tablet

Suck it, iPad! I'd totally buy that. Also, it works as a stove, so you can cook while you're browsing the web. Try making some dinner with an iPad.
